Johnny

Never not in training

Johnny's parents ran a provision shop. When he was young, he'd roam the neighbourhood, go to the neighbours' house to gamble, play marble, rubber band. When he joined para-athletic sports, training became a big part of his life. He could walk previously but unevenly. His first wheelchair was borrowed from the sports council. He didn't really need it until he started playing basketball professionally. He bought his first wheelchair when he started working, first at the disabled centre and then in an office until retirement. He is at home with all kinds of sports and played and trained in many events. He has also travelled extensively to represent Singapore in para-athletic sports. When he was younger, his parents did not know about the benefits of vaccination and skipped his. He contracted polio. They have brought him to seek various treatments and he has been in and out of hospitals. It hadn't been easy but in his own words, "no choice, life must go on".

Shark speed

Shark speed refers to a type of rubber on table tennis rackets. Ping pong ball, basketball, lawn ball - with which a lifetime of friendship and connection has been found and forged. For Johnny, a wordless back and forth of motivation by competition, care and companionability.
